During World War I, ANZAC biscuits were a popular treat made by wives and mothers for their loved ones fighting in the war. The ingredients used in the original recipe are generally safe for dogs, but we have made a few adjustments to eliminate the use of unnecessary ingredients like sugar and butter.
Here’s how you can make them at home:
Ingredients:
1 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup coconut flour
1/4 cup coconut oil
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp cinnamon
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 180 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the rolled oats, coconut flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the coconut oil, honey, and unsweetened applesauce until smooth.
Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
Roll the dough into small balls and flatten them with the palm of your hand. Place them on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 3 cm between each cookie.
Bake the cookies for 15-20 minutes or until they are golden brown.
Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool completely before serving them to your dog.
